Am 1. Oktober schließt das RUHR.2010 Projekt GastGastgeber in Oberhausen seine Türen.
Grund genug, am 26 September 2010 gemeinsam mit den teilnehmenden Designern und Partnern ab 19.30 Uhr auf dem Museumsbahnsteig Oberhausen noch einmal zu feiern und in die Zukunft zu blicken, denn das temporäre Projekt soll der Anfang für einen längerfristigen deutsch-niederländischen Austausch sein.
Seit 1. Mai fanden Besucher des Ruhrgebiets im ehemaligen Wasserturm des Bahnhofs Oberhausen eine Unterkunft der besonderen Art. Der niederländische Designer Jurgen Bey von Studio Makkink&Bey hatte hier in einem ungenutzten und ein wenig heruntergekommenen Stockwerk für GastGastgeber temporär sechs Gästezimmer eingerichtet. Bey lud dazu sechs junge Designer ein, von Anfang an eines ihrer Werke in den Zimmern auszustellen und sechs weitere, im Verlauf des Projektes vor Ort eine neue Arbeit zu schaffen.
Schon seit einiger Zeit nutzt die Gruppe kitev, die auch für die Gestaltung des Museumsbahnsteigs verantwortlich ist, den Bahnhofsturm als Laboratorium für außergewöhnliche Maßnahmen und Ausgangsort für Interventionen im städtischen Raum. Nach dem offiziellen Ende von GastGastgeber werden sie mit dem Umbau des Bahnhofsturmes beginnen. Als erster deutscher Halt für ICE-Züge aus Amsterdam ist der Bahnhof Oberhausen ein geradezu idealer Ort für gemeinsame Projekte deutscher und niederländischer Designer und Architekten. Am 26. September kommen im Rahmen des Programms Dutch Design Fashion Architecture einige Kreative aus den Niederlanden nach Oberhausen, um gemeinsam mit den Machern von kitev, den Organisatoren und Gestaltern von GastGastgeber, der Wirtschaftsförderung Oberhausen und NL-RUHR die Chancen für künftige Kooperationen in und um den Bahnhofsturm auszuloten.
Der Gedankenaustausch mündet ab 19.30 Uhr in einer öffentlichen Feier auf dem Museumsbahnsteig. Der Performancekünstler Tjyying Liu wird rund um das Rubber House der niederländischen Architekten Zeinstra/van Gelderen eine Performance präsentieren. kitev präsentiert seine Funkturm-Videoinstallation und gibt einen Vorgeschmack auf das brandneue Beleuchtungskonzept für die Bahnhofsuhr, und Jurgen Bey persönlich bietet Führungen durch die GastGastgeber-Gästezimmer. Die Bands Accord On Bleu (Ruhrgebiet) und Chehov Drug (Perm, RU) garantieren zudem gute Stimmung auf dem Bahnsteig.
Mikel van Gelderen zum "Gummi House"
Noch bis Anfang Oktober steht das Gummi House auf unserer Skulpturenwiese am Museumsbahngleis.

The Gummi House is a small pavilion, completely made out of rubber. Thehouse can be entered, one person at a time, to retreat from the outsideand to find oneself again. The introvert character of the pavilion isreinforced by the hollow acoustics of the interior. Partly translucentwalls enlighten the space during the day.Unlike what you might expect, the Gummi House is all about mass andweight. The house is an amber-coloured rectangular monolith (outsidedimensions 1,5 x 1,5 x 2,3 m) in which an egg shaped interior seems tobe carved out. One wall offers a small bench and another a window-framewith no view. The entrance is nothing more than a vertical cut in athird wall. The whole house, including bench and window-frame, is madeout of poured in place urethane resin.The Gummi House will be the main source of inspiration for aperformance by the dramaturg Tjyying Liu in the first week of October2010 on the square in front of the Schauspielhaus Bochum. Before that,it will also be on display in Oberhausen during the ISEA2010 conference, the International Symposium on Electronic Art.

Bart Hess
On Monday, 16th of August 2010, BART HESS arrived at the Gastgastgeber Hotel in Oberhausen. He is one of the artists presenting a piece of work in "Kammer 5" (in English: chamber 5) of the hotel. His artistic practice generally revolves around different surfaces and materials such as textiles. The new approach he discovered here consists of tracing the repetitive use of the same materials by several people.
One of the main characteristics of a hotel is the fact that a lot of people use the same items in the same fashion: they sit upright or lie flatly on a bed, they put their head on a pillow, cover themselves with a blanket and so forth. The same items are used over and over again, by a succession of hotel customers. Of course you get always new blankets and stuff, but the idea still exists!
So Bart started collecting his own traces he left whilst staying in one of the hotel rooms.Let us take the pillow as an example: He used a foil one side of which was coated with a sticky film. So when Bart went to sleep he positioned the foil inbetween his face and the pillow, the sticky side for his cheek, the non-sticky side on the pillow's fabric. By doing so, he could trace the texture of his face in its dormant state on the pillow. Bart also tried the same method with his entire body.
